There are a number of wines made that improve with a period of ageing in the bottle. They are released to the market with the expectation that the purchaser will take over the responsibility of looking after the wines until such time as they are ready to drink. Why buy a wine before it is ready to drink? Well, these wines tend to be of high quality and in limited supply. In addition, buying ahead of one’s immediate requirements does tend to have the advantage that one is buying economically.
We can offer a selection of wines that require a period of laying down from stocks we hold ourselves. These wines are physical stocks that belong to CCFW. They were originally purchased En Primeur and have since been delivered to the CCFW bonded warehouse account.

En Primeur
Certain wines are offered for sale ‘En Primeur’. This takes things a step further than the simple lay down process. The purchaser is buying a wine ‘future’ – that is wine that is still with the producer and has yet to be bottled. Classed growth Bordeaux wines and Vintage Ports are offered En Primeur though this practise is by no means exclusive to these wines. As with wines that need to be laid down, the theory is that the purchaser not only secures sought-after wines but pays less than would be the case if they were looking for mature ready-to-drink stocks of the same wines in years to come.
