   Cellar Planning

Purchasing a supply of your own wine does not mean that you have to have a couple of acres of deep, dark, dank cellars under the house to store the wine in. Nor does it mean you employ several NASA scientists to construct a room that has a constant temperature and automatic pressure pad activated spotlights that illuminate your 1st Growth claret collection. If you do have either, all well and good but if you do not, don’t worry. As long as your wine is left lying horizontally in a draught-free (but not airless), reasonably cool, dampish, rather dark place that is free from regular vibrations then in all likelihood it will develop and survive as its makers originally intended.

Space tends to be the biggest problem but it is worth remembering that you can always ask your friendly wine merchant to store cases on your behalf and therefore limit yourself to only needing to provide refuge for your more immediate drinking needs! Whatever area you provide yourself with, the far more fun part of cellar planning is deciding what to fill the space with! Whether you feel like splashing out on a “ready-made” cellar or would prefer to build up your reserves case by case we would be delighted to offer any assistance we can. Do please feel free to call on us with any questions you may have. We would be only too pleased to help.
