There are very few vineyards in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation that are as grand as Chateau La Nerthe with its 225 contiguous acres of vines planted in red clay soil and sandy hollows covered with the area's characteristic pebbles. Many of its vines are a century old. Yields are purposely low in order to produce highly concentrated grapes. At the same time they strive to ensure the right balance of alcohol content and tannin in their wines.
