In 1872 a Raventós ancestor offered a bottle-fermented sparkling wine to the Barcelona market, named his creation Codorniu and he founded a dynasty. In 1982 Josep Maria left the family "quantity driven" business to establish his own premium marque. This is a blend of Parellada, Xarel-lo and Macabeo with up to 10% Chardonnay.
