2004 Unwooded Chardonnay, Coronel Wines, Red Hill, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria
Paul and Louise currently have a three acre vineyard of which two acres produce Chardonnay. This is real hands-on stuff … hand pruned, hand picked and whole bunch pressed. They make an Unwooded wine because they want to and we should be grateful because it is wonderfully crafted. A lemon white light straw colour, strong tropical fruit aromas particularly melon on the nose. Full fruit flavours, tropical, good balance with a little supportive acidity and a honeyed after taste.

2002 Chardonnay, Paul & Louise Coronel, Red Hill, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria
I know, I know this is a bit like London buses but this is the final chapter (for now at least)! Why have a follow on vintage in the same brochure? Well, having set the scene above ... forget everything! Different year ... different ball game ... and that is another of the exciting things about Mornington ... some pretty wild vintage variations! In this case there was a 7 month ripening period. Good weather meant the grapes could stay on the vines and that led to botrytis. The Coronels went along with mother nature and harvested at 0.25 tonne/acre! The result ... a gold straw colour wine, pure light vanilla with new sawdust and tropical fruit on the nose. A very full almost luscious fruit flavour, melon and tropical stone fruits in the mouth. Only 300 bottles produced. A unique experience?
