2007 Chenin Blanc, Morgenhof Wine Estate, WO Stellenbosch
Founded in 1692 Morgenhof was bought in 1993 by A & A Cointreau-Huchon and is now producing some of the very finest wines in South Africa. Their Chenin Blanc is "from older vines (mid-30's always impressive, unobtrusively wooded (7-9 mths, 10% new) usually just about dry" Good value. (John Platter, South African Wines 2004) It is a fabulous example of what can be achieved with this grape when a little time and care is taken and the 2003 has wonderful limey, creamy flavours.

2007 Sauvignon Blanc, Crios Bride, WO Darling
Crios Bride is a new producer formed in 2006. Their first wine comes from an individual vineyard high up in the well respected Groenekloof ward. The grapes were harvested by hand in a single day. The wine delivers a full and pungent nose. It is rich and almost unctuous in the mouth. Obvious flavours of gooseberry and fig. There is something of a creamy texture whilst retaining balance and no little poise. Quite warming which is no surprise given the alcohol level. That said this is not OTT. It is big and powerful and has an amazing length. This is a stunning wine and proof positive of what can be done when you unite the best grapes with a cerebral and caring winemaker. There is an interesting future ahead of this vintage and certainly the potential to develop in the bottle over time. This is the first vintage of this wine and they have set the bar mighty high for the future!
